TYPE: Four-seat kitbuilt.
PROGRAMME: Programme announced in late 2001 and wooden mockup of cabin shown when first flight expected second quarter of 2003; this achieved by prototype (N410RV) on 29 May 2003. Exhibited at AirVenture, Oshkosh, July 2003. Kit deliveries started 25 September 2003.
CUSTOMERS: By October 2003, 85 kits had been sold.
COSTS: Standard kit US$35,000; quick-build kit US$45,000 (2003).
DESIGN FEATURES: Similar to other members of RV series; designed to carry four 1.83 m (6 ft 0 in) tall adults.
FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. Horn-balanced rudder and elevator; actuation by cables (rudder) and pushrods. Fowler electric flaps. Tabs in both elevators.
STRUCTURE: Similar ro RV-7 and RV-9; aluminium fuselage with composites cabin top, wingtips and wingroot. Two-spar wing.
LANDING GEAR: Tricycle type; fixed. 6.00-6 tyres on all wheels; Cleveland disc brakes on mainwheels. Optional speed fairings.
POWER PLANT: Prototype fitted with one 194 kW (260 hp) Textron Lycoming IO-540 flat-six driving a Hartzell F8477-4 two-blade, constant-speed propeller. Engines in the range 149 to 194 kW (200 to 260 hp) can be fitted. Total fuel capacity 227 litres (60.0 US gallons; 50.0 Imp gallons) in two wing leading-edge tanks.
ACCOMMODATION: Pilot and three passengers in two pairs of seats; rear seatbacks remove to increase baggage space. Cabin has gull-wing door on each side. Baggage door on port fuselage side behind cockpit.
