PROGRAMME: Prototype unveiled at Oshkosh in 1992; flight testing completed 1995. Certification of Fastbuild kit granted early 1996 under simplified version of FAR Pt 23 governing light aircraft. Further improvements to Fastbuild kit introduced in early 2002.

Super ES: Higher-powered version.

CUSTOMERS: Total of 163 kits sold by early 2003, of which 40 were then flying. Production continues.

COSTS: Standard Fastbuild US$58,900; New Fastbuild kit US$68,900 (2003).

DESIGN FEATURES: Generally as for earlier Lancairs; hardtop cabin with paired side-by-side seats. Sidestick controls. Quoted Fastbuild kit construction time 1,800 hours; with new 2002 improvements reduced to quoted time of 700 hours.

FLYING CONTROLS: Generally as for Lancair IV.

STRUCTURE: All-composites.

LANDING GEAR: Non-retractable tricycle type. Main tyres 6.00-15x6; nose 5.00-5. Nosewheel steerable through 90°.

POWER PLANT: ES: One 149 kW (200 hp) Teledyne Continental IO-360-ES flat-six engine; two-blade McCauley constant-speed propeller.
Super ES: One 209 kW (280 hp) Teledyne Continental IO-550-G or 231 kW (310 hp) IO-550-N with three-blade Hartzell constant-speed propeller. Standard fuel capacity 360 litres (95.0 US gallons; 79.1 Imp gallons), in two wing tanks. Oil capacity 7.6 litres (2.0 US gallons; 1.7 Imp gallons).

ACCOMMODATION: Pilot and three passengers in two pairs of seats.
