DESIGN FEATURES: High-performance tourer for amateur construction. Designed to FAR Pt 23. Extensive use of composites. Employs Lancair IV wings and landing gear. Wing easily removed for storage and transportation. Winglets introduced from 2000. Quoted build time 1,500 hours.
Laminar flow, cantilever wing with 2° washout at tip. Wing section NACA 64-212 at tip. Jacosky RXM5-217 at root. Optional winglets.
FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. Flight-adjustable tab in port elevator; horn-balanced rudder with ground-adjustable tab. Fowler flaps droop to 30° and are 2.84 m (9 ft 4 in) long. Aileron length 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in).
STRUCTURE: Prebuilt centre-fuselage area of welded 4130 steel tubing; remainder of airframe primarily of graphite/Nomex honeycomb core/epoxy.
LANDING GEAR: Hydraulically retractable tricycle type; power is provided by an electric motor. Cleveland 6.00-6 mainwheels and tyres; nosewheel 5.00x5. Hydraulic disc brakes.
POWER PLANT: Choice of either 224 kW (300 hp) Teledyne Continental IO-550-G or 261 kW (350 hp) turbocharged Teledyne Continental TSIO-550-B six-cylinder engine driving a McCauley or Hartzell three-blade constant-speed propeller. Fuel capacity 681 litres (180 US gallons; 150 Imp gallons) in two wing tanks. Other engine options include 268 kW (360 hp) Textron Lycoming TIO-540-AE2A, 560 kW (751 shp) Walter M 601E and reconditioned 410 kW (550 shp) PT6A-20.
ACCOMMODATION: Two pilots and up to four passengers in three pairs of seats. Two rear pairs can be swivelled to provide club seating arrangement. Alternatively, centre row of seats can be quickly removed for carriage of cargo. Large (two-part, horizontally split) door on port side. Removable 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) x 0.91 m (3 ft 0 in) panel on starboard side for loading. Baggage shelf.
