The tandem two-seat Sperocco (the name being a contraction of ‘Special Sirocco’) is intended for high performance aerobatic and competition flying and incorporates features of the MJ-5 and MJ-7. The fuselage is of completely new design, with a basically triangular cross-section, but is of similar construction to that of the MJ-5. Landing gear is of the MJ-5 type and is fully retractable.
Any horizontally opposed engine of 112-179 kW (150-240 hp) may be installed. Fuel is contained in two wing tanks, each of 55 litres (14.5 US gallons; 12 Imp gallons) capacity, and one fuselage tank of 45 or 100 litres (11.9 or 26.4 US gallons; 10 or 22 Imp gallons) capacity.
The first MJ-51, powered by a 149 kW (200 hp) Textron Lycoming AIO-360 engine, is being constructed by M Serge Brillant at Melun.
