Formed 1912 as Deutsche Bristol Werke, becoming Halberstädter Flugzeugwerke early 1914. Chief designer Dipl.-Ing. Karl Theis produced series of military biplanes, all derived from B.I 2-seat trainer of 1914, via B.II (January 1915). One family were D.I-D.V fighting scouts, others being C.I-C.IX 2-seat recon and, most important of all, CL.II and IV armed 2-seaters.
