Company was established in 2004 as an offshoot of the Dean-Wilson metal foundry. In the same year it announced that construction had begun of a new basic trainer designed by Bill Whitney, who had previously been responsible for refining the production version of Hughes Australian Lightwing; designing the Seabird Seeker; and 16 other projects. Dean-Wilson Aviation became a public listed company on 1 December 2005.
The new trainer, known as the Whitney Boomerang, is undergoing flight trials conducted by Arena Aviation at Kingaroy, north-west of Brisbane, and is being manufactured in series at the same location. Official opening of the 1,100 m² (11,850 sq ft) Kingaroy production facility was on 2 September 2006.
