SOLARIS AVIATION INC
Solaris Aviation was established in 1999 and purchased the assets of Ruschmeyer Luftfahrttechnik GmbH of Germany including Type Certificates, moulds and tooling. Ruschmeyer had filed for bankruptcy in January 1996, having built a small number of R 90 four-seat touring aircraft. Solaris has also acquired a 10,220 m² (110,000 sq ft) manufacturing facility in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, where labour-intensive parts of the relaunched aircraft are produced before being shipped to Florida for final assembly. The Sigma, as the R 90 is now known, was first shown publicly at AirVenture, Oshkosh, in July 2001, the project having been formally announced on 5 July 2001.
