FLEETWINGS

Incorporated Bristol, PA, 1929 to research stainless-steel aircraft structure, progressing to supplying complete wings. Occupied former Keystone plant 1934 and designed F-5 Seabird 5-seat amphibian (5 built). In 1939 supplied US Army XBT-12 trainer, 200 ordered but only 24 delivered as BT-12 Sophomore 1942. Single Model 33 light-alloy trainer followed. Acquired by Henry J. Kaiser 1943, and began bidding for big Navy contracts, e.g. XBTK (prototype flown but won by Douglas Skyraider) and XFK (also won by Douglas).
