David R. Davis not only founded Douglas but designed wing of B-24 Liberator and several other aircraft and in 1940 published patented plan for Manta fighter, with thick monoplane wing with downturned tips. Formed Manta Aircraft Corp., Los Angeles, but got no further than mock-up.
