Aviaton displayed its first product, the Merkury light twin, at the 1997 Moscow Air Show. On 27 March 1998, it purchased a controlling share (91.44 per cent) of the Kutaisi Technical Aircraft Factory and proposed to assemble aircraft there from parts manufactured elsewhere. However, there has been no recent news of the venture.
